    • Janine got some VIP treatment last week with a company she works with. She also went to Hayward and completed her first ever Birkebeiner Bike Ride.
    • Tara gave $20 and gave an update on her life. She is happy to be back for the first time in a long time. The last couple of months have been full of tough experiences. Her Mother-in-Law fell ill and was in the hospital for quite some time. She had to make a tough choice of coming home to be comfortable until passing or have surgery on her colon to have it removed. She decided to have surgery to get her colon removed. Unfortunately, this led to complications and a hernia, she was home and back again multiple times with complications. This was a lot of learning experiences as far as what end of life care looks like. Right around this time Tara’s mom called her and she was sick with complications of her only kidney. Unfortunately, her mom passed away due to this illness. Tara’s daughter’s friend was in a hot air balloon crash in which her friend was very injured, and the other passengers passed away. Tara said these are many life bombs, and that she has been feeling very overwhelmed and feeling a lot lately. Tara recently went to a work conference that was so inspiring and she felt so loved by everyone in these hard times. She felt support and love from friends, industry workers, community members, Rotarians and more. Although it has been an incredibly tough couple of months with so many low times, she is feeling loved and supported and almost renewed.
    • Beth returned from her 11 National Park trip. The Grand Canyon has its own rotary chapter! Beth was accepted into the rotary friendship exchange in the Philippines in May.

He wants to go to UW School and get a degree in environmental studies. He wants to give back and make a difference with environmental studies. Montana is very big into Mountain Biking, and it has made a huge difference in his life. His father is a tool and dye maker by trade, and his mom has had to stop working to take care of his sister who fell ill with a chronic illness. This taught him to be a hard worker. Program Speaker: Janet Foust

Janet Foust is a retired educator and speaks on highly sensitive people. She is an introvert and highly sensitive. She can recall crying at hallmark movies, and always being sensitive. Her husband passed away and she began exploring human behavior.

Janet brought gum to help us through a meditation practice about being mindful. When you chew your gum think about what you are chewing, why you are doing it, and where this is going, and how does it make you feel. She also brought seeds and planters to help us understand how this correlates to extrovert and introvert behavior. Her husband was an extrovert, whereas she is an introvert who needed alone and downtime. This can be compared to watering plants. Some plants need to be watered from the bottom up, others need to be watered from the top down.

How can tell if you are highly sensitive – they process things deeper. When her husband watched a movie, he would just see the characters in the movie. When she watched it, it would relate to an experience that she had. Those who are highly sensitive are typically more introverted. Highly sensitive people, when over stimulated, will shut down. Highly sensitive people pay attention to everything, and it can overwhelm them. Janet discussed how she recently worked with a child who cannot focus on class as she cannot help but pay attention to how other people are feeling, thinking, and behaving. This is why it is important to understand this behavior.

She recommended reading “The Boy, the Fox, the Horse, and the Mole”.
