My name is Jordan Gade. I am a senior at Lakeside Lutheran High School. My parents, Todd and Jill, my younger sister Kinsey and I moved from DeForest to Lake Mills when I was 5 just so we could attend Lakeside Lutheran. I am grateful for my parents’ decision and also that I can be a member of the Lake Mills community.

My high school career has been active, especially with the Warrior dance team. I’ve been on the team for four years and a captain for one. As a team, we also take classes at Releve’ Dance studio where we stay current on technique and other dance skills. Not only have I danced on the team, I have choreographed dances, helped coached the team, and taught younger girls the correct technique and fundamentals. The dance team is a family and we help and support each other. In December, I had surgery on my ankle and am still working on rehabilitation. Through this difficult time, the team has stood by my side and I will always remember their friendship and kindness.

Apart from dance, I have participated in Teens For Christ for two years. This service group helps others in many ways, such as organizing fundraisers for people in need or hosting New Friends events, which give Lakeside Lutheran students the opportunity to make new friends with people who have disabilities or mental challenges. I also enjoy the theater and was a cast member of the musical “Princess Whatsername” in 2016 as well as being part of the hair and makeup team.

Lakeside Lutheran has also given me the opportunity to go on multiple trips. The first was an A Cappella Choir trip we took over Spring Break my junior year. We traveled throughout Arizona singing in churches and then returned to sing the national anthem at Miller Park for the Milwaukee Brewers. The second trip was to Houston with “Operation Go.” This mission trip program gives students the opportunity to go to other states, and sometimes other countries, helping with camps or Vacation Bible School.

I have also worked at Milford Hills Hunt Club for four years. I help at set up and as a server for weddings. I have really enjoyed working there and getting to know the other employees. This job also allows me the opportunity to practice marksmanship since I enjoy hunting. Another hobby of mine is fishing and being outdoors in general. It is this love for the outdoors that led me to pursue a career in environmental biology at UW-Stevens Point after graduation.

I am humbled and honored to have been chosen as Student Rotarian. I hope this will be an opportunity to learn more about how I can help my community and grow in leadership.

My name is Carinna Kroll and this year I am a senior at Lake Mills High School. My parents are Chris and Amy Kroll. I have two siblings, my sister Mia is sophomore this year at Lake Mills High School and my brother Boden is a seventh-grader attending Lake Mills Middle School. I also have two pets. A bird named Buddy, and a dog named Luna. Some of my hobbies include running, playing basketball, playing with my pets, volunteering, hanging out with friends, reading, listening to music, and helping my grandpa with his garden. I really love to learn about new things and teach myself through reading books and I like to keep my brain full of new information.

Throughout high school I have been involved in many clubs, sports, and activities. I played volleyball during my freshman (freshmen team) and sophomore (junior varsity team) years. After the school volleyball season of my freshmen year ended, I started playing club volleyball for Jefferson County Flare.  I also played girls’ basketball my freshman, sophomore, and junior year on the junior varsity team, and plan to continue playing during my senior year. During my sophomore year I was involved in the fall musical as a member of the crew (set building) and the ensemble, but for my junior and senior year I have been involved as a student director. I was also the assistant director in the spring play for my sophomore and junior year and would like to continue being the assistant director for my senior year as well. Because of my involvement in the musical I have also been involved in Drama Club during my sophomore through senior years. For forensics during both my sophomore and junior years I received a silver medal at the State Meet and I can’t wait to go back for my last season in the beginning of next year. Due to my love for reading, my freshman year I decided to join a club called Cafe Library, which is a lot like a book club. I have continued to stay in that club for my sophomore and junior years and can not wait for it to start up for my senior year. I was involved in Octagon (Junior Optimists) Club during my freshman, sophomore, and junior year and plan to continue into my senior year. During my sophomore year I was on the math team. I also was selected to be involved in the Capital Art Conference at the Pyle Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison through my art class and a piece that I created. I have a love for languages and cultures and that can be seen through my involvement in Spanish Club (freshman through senior years) and International Club (freshman through sophomore year). During my junior year, I decided to join Elm Club. I was also chosen to be a part of Lake Mills High School’s Link Crew and National Honors Society for both my junior and senior years. I am hoping that I can be involved in Model UN (United Nations) for my senior year.

I have been a Girls on the Run running buddy from freshman through junior year and am looking forward to becoming a Girls on the Run coach for my senior season. I have also been involved in the various Girls on the Run community service projects including a Trinity Pines gameday, Children’s Hospital Toy Drive, and Humane Society Donation Drive (included making dog and cat toys ourselves from recycled products). During my Freshman year I helped Octagon Club with the Fall Festival, and helped with the Garlic Mustard Pull during my sophomore year. The summer of my freshman year I was a 3 v. 3 8th grade girls’ basketball coach. I volunteered with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Speech and Hearing Clinic Summer Playgroup freshman through junior year and can’t wait for my senior year with the kids in the playgroup. During the summer before my junior year I helped with an Optimist basketball camp for girls with the Lake Mills Girls’ Basketball Team. During my junior year I volunteered at the Rotary Park concession stand.

After graduating from high school I would like to go to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse to study for pre-medicine. I would like to go to college to become a surgeon so that I can help people in emergencies and keep my brain learning new information all the time. Both of my parents are doctors and I look up to them and how they help people everyday.

I know of the Rotary Club because both of my parents have been members. I also grew up playing soccer at Rotary Park in Lake Mills. I am very interested to see the behind-the-scenes Rotary Club and am eager to learn more about the club.

My name is Ruby Stevens and I am the daughter of Christine Nolan and Patrick Stevens. I attend Lake Mills High School. My parents adopted me from China when I was one and I have grown up in Lake Mills ever since. This community has provided me many opportunities to participate in clubs and activities for which I am extremely grateful. My hobbies include reading, playing soccer, spending time with friends, and being involved in school and the community.

Throughout high school, I have been involved and plan to be involved in many extracurriculars. The music department has given me the opportunity to participate in band and Jazz Band my freshman and sophomore years and orchestra for four years. I was selected to be in Chamber Strings since freshmen year. Also, I participated in Solo and Ensemble throughout high school in piano and viola events. Other clubs that I participated in were Ski Club (9), Spanish Club (10), and Math Team (9,10). I have participated in Octagon Club since my freshmen year and will do so this year. Since sophomore year I participated in Battle of the Books and Cafe Library, which I plan to continue. The Battle of the Books team I was in sophomore and junior year finished first out of the Lake Mills high school teams.

In addition, I joined the new Interact club at school my sophomore year. As a junior, I was a higher officer and was elected president for the 2017-18 school year. During my junior year, I was inducted into National Honor Society. I joined Forensics and the Prom Committee. At the Capitol Conference Forensics Meet I placed first in the category of public address and at state, I won a silver medal. I participated in volleyball freshmen and sophomore year and was on JV both years. Also, I have played varsity soccer since freshmen year and as a junior, I was elected co-captain by my teammates.

Outside of school, I have participated in piano and club volleyball. Throughout high school, I have been involved in GDU Soccer, co-ed indoor soccer, and Girl Scouts. Furthermore, I was selected to represent Lake Mills at Badger Girls State.

I have been involved in the community in many ways through my participation in the various volunteer organizations. The Octagon Club has been a great outlet for me to volunteer in the Lake Mills Community. Through the club, I helped children decorate pumpkins at the Lake Mills Fall Festival for three years, directed runners for the Knickerbocker 5k run, helped children in the art yard at the Lake Mills Art Festival, filled and hid Easter eggs for the annual Easter egg hunt, wrapped Christmas gifts for the Christmas Neighbors event, sold concessions at the Knickerbocker Festival, helped children make crafts at a People Against Domestic and Sexual Abuse event downtown, and volunteered as an ambassador at the Lake Mills Art Festival. In addition, I was selected to attend the Junior Optimist National Convention in Albuquerque, NM this year. It was a great opportunity to learn leadership skills and how we can improve our club by motivating others and increasing student involvement.

Through NHS, I baked cookies for Christmas Neighbors, helped with the community blood drive, and volunteered at the Wallace Park concession stand. In Interact, I helped create and fundraise for the student-led food pantry. Chamber Strings has provided me the opportunity to perform for the community at the Lake Mills Winter Market in 2014 and 2015 and at the Paint the Town event in 2015. In Pop Strings, I performed downtown for the Lake Mills Art Festival in 2015 and 2016 and at the Summer Summit at the high school in 2017. In 2015 and 2016, I helped coach the Mini L-Cat Volleyball Camp. In 2016 and 2017, I helped coach the Recreation Department Soccer Camp. I have also been involved in Girl Scouts. Our troop has maintained a community flower bed from 2015-2017 and adopted a family through Christmas Neighbors in 2014. Also, I volunteered at the Aztalan museum in their annual spring clean up in 2015.

After graduation, I plan to attend college at the University of Wisconsin-Madison or the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities pursuing an education in biomedical engineering or architecture. This summer, I was selected to attend the Engineering Tomorrow's Careers Camp at UW-Madison, which sparked my interest in engineering. I have always been interested in helping people and biomedical engineering would allow me to create medical machines and devices that can change someone’s life. Architecture is another interest of mine as I have always been fascinated by buildings and their interior. It would be amazing to design and construct a building that could help and inspire others.

It would be an honor to be chosen as a Student Rotarian because the Rotary Club embodies the quote, “Service Above Self.” I share the same belief as the Rotary Club that giving one’s self in service to others will advance the world, which is why I love to be involved in the betterment of the Lake Mills community. It would be an amazing opportunity to meet and learn from leaders in the community who strive to make our town and the world a better place.
