LAUREN FELDER:
Hello, my name is Lauren Felder. I moved to Lake Mills with my mother, Mildred, when in 2005, after my parents were divorced. I truly believe growing up in Lake Mills is one of the many factors that contributed to my love for small towns. As I’m an only child, I have become very independent and adept and entertaining myself. One of my earliest loves and entertainments was reading, which I continue to enjoy immensely. I am also fond of writing, specifically short stories. A couple years ago, I stumbled across a photography blog and since then I have become infatuated with photography. One of my favorite activities is going hiking with my camera, both because I can be outside with nature and because I have the opportunity to capture a beautiful moment in my own personal history. Music has played a role in my life since I was seven years old and my mother gave me piano lessons for my birthday. I have since quit piano, but I continue to play viola and alto saxophone in the school music program. I also love my job as a stable hand at Paradigm Farm here in Lake Mills. I have always loved animals and the opportunity to work with such great people and horses is a dream come true for me.

*2017-2018 members have not been        announced as of 9/14/17

2014: volunteered at Tri for the Rock triathlon, participated in Lake Mills City Band
2015: volunteered at the Optimist Easter Egg Hunt and at the Fisheree
2016: worked as a substitute umpire for the Recreation Department’s softball program, one of the members of the board at the time The Mill (LMHS food pantry) was founded
2017: volunteered at the Madison Mini Marathon and “The Ride” (a bike race in Sun Prairie that benefits cancer research)
I started working my current job in 2015. Unfortunately, because of this, I have had very little time to volunteer. I would like to be able to volunteer more of my time, which is one of the reasons I would like to be a Student Rotarian; to volunteer.

After high school, I would like to go to a four year college to earn a B.S. in both psychology and equine science. After college, I need to obtain either a Master’s degree or a PsyD to become a professional counselor or psychologist, respectively. My goal is to work with people, especially veterans, who suffer from PTSD or have suffered trauma using equine assisted therapy.

Since freshman year, I have wanted to be involved in as many clubs and organizations as possible because I enjoy being busy and being involved in my community. It became my goal to be in the National Honor Society and to be a Student Rotarian, as those are the two highest honors one can achieve within the bounds of clubs whose goal is to serve others. Another of my goals is to be kind to everyone and to help as many people as possible in my life time. I admire the motto, “Service above self,” and I want to strive to practice it as much as possible. I’m also very interested in international service projects because it’s an opportunity to broaden my cultural awareness and use foreign language skills. In my opinion, Rotary is one of the best options for me to participate in international service projects.

KELLY KOCH:
My name is Kelly Koch and I am a senior at Lakeside Lutheran High School. I am the daughter of Tim and Rebecca Koch and I have three siblings. I live in Ixonia with my family.

In high school, I have participated in many activities. I have been a part of National Honor Society, the math team, and Teens for Christ. I also was given the opportunity to participate in The American Legion County Youth Government Day my junior year. I played basketball for two years, volleyball for three, and softball for four. The past two summers I helped out with the volleyball camp hosted at Lakeside. This summer I have been given the opportunity to go on an Operation Go mission trip that I am very excited about. I will be going to New Orleans to help out with a Vacation Bible School.

I love giving back to the community. I am active in my church’s youth group where I help out with outreach events multiple times a year. The past two years I volunteered at Night to Shine in Oconomowoc, which is a prom-like experience for individuals with intellectual disabilities. I also help at a local nursing home with their Music and Memory Program, which gives residents the ability to receive an iPod to listen to music. I have volunteered at Soles for Jesus in Milwaukee to help package up shoes to send to people in Africa.

After high school, I plan on attending UW-Madison for a degree in biology. After my bachelor’s, I plan to pursue a Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies. I really want to focus on helping out the elderly and individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Being selected as a Student Rotarian is such an honor. I am looking forward to learning from community members and finding out what I can do to give back. I want to continue to be involved in the community in my professional life and being a Student Rotarian is one way to prepare for that future, learning from community leaders in the present. I am very thankful for this opportunity that has been given me.

KAYLI BUCHLI:
My name is Kayli Buchli, daughter of Rich and Deb Buchli. I have a brother named Justin who is a junior at Iowa State University. I really enjoy running, especially in competitive races like in track and cross country. I also enjoy art, being with my friends, and just staying active. During the summers, my family and I love to take long road trips, so I love traveling and exploring different places. We have been all across the country, and we love to hike, kayak, bike, swim, camp, and do many other outdoor activities.

The extra- and co-curricular activities that I am involved with in Lake Mills are a big part in who I am and they all build my character. I have been in Varsity cross country and track all four years. For cross country, during my junior year, I was the MVP, and I am currently the Co-Captain my senior year. For my junior year of track, I was the MVP and Co-Captain. I have also been a member of many clubs, including Spanish Club (9, 10, 11, 12), International Club (9), National Honor Society (11, 12), Visual Arts Classic (11), Junior Optimist Club (9, 10, 11, 12), Yearbook Club (10, 11, 12), and Interact Club (11, 12). I have also received some awards for art, like earning the Best of School award for the Capitol Conference Art Show my sophomore and junior years and getting 1st in state for Visual Arts Classic my junior year.

As a member of many clubs, I have been given many opportunities to help with the Lake Mills community and volunteer at many different events. Some of these events include helping with the Kids Tri for the Rock, handing out pumpkins at the fall festival, wrapping Christmas presents for families through the Octagon Club, helping at the Knickerbocker festival, hiding eggs at the Optimist Club’s Easter egg hunt, and helping at the Elementary School Carnival. Some other events that I have volunteered for around town are helping measure jumps at Middle School and High School track meets, helping with Middle School track clinics, volunteering at the Lake Mills Night Out Against Crime, putting together goodie bags for the Tyranena Run, registering donors at the blood drive, moving books for the public library, and volunteering at the Rotary Concession Stand.

After high school, I plan on immediately attending college the following school year. I’m currently hoping to attend UW-La Crosse and I would like to major in the health field, particularly radiation therapy. I would love to become a radiation therapist because I am very interested in anatomy and the health field, and I have always wanted to help save people’s lives. I am also planning on being involved in college as well, such as competing on the track team. If I change my mind later down the road, I’m also considering majoring in engineering at UW-Madison.

I would love to be selected as a Student Rotarian because it would help me gain experience in getting involved in the community and help me grow as a person. I feel that being a Student Rotarian is one of the greatest honors to get students prepared for both college and their futures, and I would definitely take this experience seriously and use it to my advantage when it comes to future leadership roles. Another reason I want to be selected is that I’m thinking about going into radiation therapy, and I feel that being a Student Rotarian would really aide in that job because it requires a lot of interaction with people and great leadership.
