PROGRAM
Pam introduced Sandy Whisler with the campaign "Keep Covid Out"
Pam served on the Jefferson Co Health Dept as a contact between the dept and schools in jefferson co. By attending all the school board meetings in the county, she heard how much schools wanted to open, but an underlying question was, what are communities willing to do to make this work? The program "Keep Covid Out" was created to assist communities in doing what they can to reduce the spread of covid.
There are 10 people on the leadership committee of Keep Covid Out, including two students at the high school. They started with a booth at the Fall Festival to educate the community on the program. They found there were 14 organizations interested in joining the initiative, including our rotary club. They received a $400 donation from the Lake Mills Arts Alliance to kick off their campaign. They are promoting social distancing, mask wearing, and hand washing.
They also wanted to include local businesses. They asked businesses to join and display posters showing they are part of the keep covid out campaign and they also highlighted these businesses on social media.
The group received $1250 from the community foundation which became $25 gift certificates. Each day a community member name is drawn for a gift certificate.
So far, 63 businesses have signed on and gift certificates are still being drawn.
Their next step is a final sweep of businesses to join. At the end of Feb, the list of people who have been a part of the initiative will be published.
They are active on social media with instructional facebook posts supported by evidence.
The final phase of the initiative is to help with vaccine education. Their message is it is safe and effective. They will post facts and evidence about the vaccine.
Community organizations or events have started soliciting advice from Keep Covid Out on how to hold their activities safely.
Yesterday, they were interviewed by NBC 15 news.
