day Meeting Minutes - 08/11/2026

August 11, 2026

President Beth Naughton brought the meeting to order at 12:15pm. Pledge of Allegiance and 4 Way Test recited. Twenty one Rotarians were in attendance, one Rotarian on zoom plus one guest. 

No birthdays except for speaker.  
Rotary anniversary: Brian B. (9 years)

Happy Bucks:

  • Beth N. – attended the Legendary Lake Mills cash raffle. Didn’t win but had fun.

  • Andy B. – kids are performing at Irish Fest this weekend. Brother in law won side line tickets to the Packer family night and took his son to the game.

  • Jenny M. – attended her future daughter in law’s bachelorette pasty last weekend. Had lots of laughs and fun.

  • Ed H. – reminder that today is an election day.

Club Business:

  • 2nd reading – Sydney from Summit Credit Union (corporate membership)

  • Please pay dues as soon as possible. Venmo is set up. Make sure to use friends and family to minimize fees. 

  • Student Rotarians will begin next month. Plan to have markers places around the room where the students will sit. 

  • Committees will meet in 2 weeks during noon meeting. New committee is needed for a costume contest on witches’ night out (October 29) at Commons Park. 

  • Club 55 10 year anniversary. Raffle and Euchre tournament on August 16 at 5pm. 

  • Friends of the Library raffle tickets available.

Upcoming Events:

  • Clawking this Friday. Meet at Commons Park at noon. Rain or shine. State Senator Melissa Ratcliff will join the group on August 21.

  • August 19 - Blood Drive will be at Lake Mills Fire Station. Help is needed to move tables (11:30am and 6pm). Please contact Brian B. to volunteer. 

  • August 19 – Trash pickup beginning at 5:00pm on Highway 89. Meeting to follow at 6pm at Tyranena Brewery. 

  • August 25 – Rotary Board meeting beginning at 8am at Farmers & Merchants Bank. 

  • September 12 - Pyramid City 5K Run. Sign up soon. Need cheerleaders on course and water stations. (Swag bag stuffing is 9/2)

  • September 17 - Sex trafficking seminar. More information next week.

  • October 5 - Culver’s Night Out (save the date)

Speaker: Laura Dwyer – Paralympian Mixed Doubles Curling (new event)

  • Laura grew up on a farm. Injured in a landscaping accident in 2012. Needed to stay motivated to raise her 2 sons with her husband. Joined a gym and saw a flyer for curling. 

  • The sticks they used were designed in Milwaukee.

  • Took her 19 hours to arrive in Italy. Security was tight. Great food the entire trip.

  • The homes they lived in were the size of an ice fishing shanty and are now being used for the homeless. 

  • Laura and her partner qualified for the semi finals (bronze level match)

  • Didn’t win a medal but plans to participate in the next Paralympics in 2030.

  • Last week, she was in Washington DC to celebrate all the athletes at the White House. 

  • Pictures she had were amazing.

Due to timing, the Foundation meeting is rescheduled for August 25, 2026.
