PROGRAM
Chief Mick Selck spoke about the grant from the LM Community Foundation that enabled the purchase of an automated license plate reader. It will significantly increase the LMPD's efficiency and investigative capabilities. An average officer might run 20-40 plates in a day, while this ran over 500 plates in its first day in real time. Furthermore, the systems links with thousands of others throughout the country, enabling large and instant database searches. A suspect was already apprehended with drugs and an intent to distribute using this technology. It has been active for one week.
