The first order of business was a discussion surrounding the decision by the LM Rotary Board to maintain the Pyramid City Run as is for this year. During that discussion of the board, several concerns were raised regarding the current management of the run and those were also discussed. Full information about the meeting can be found in the board meeting minutes published on 10/1.
It was the decision of the group to review the run in its entirety and see if improvements can be made.
One of the concerns was the perceived lack of input that is received from the day meeting members in who gets the funds generated from the run. Currently under consideration are NAMI, Jeni Nichols Outdoor Learning Center, The Mill, JCLC (Jefferson County Literacy Council), accessibility in our Lake Mills parks and the library renovations. An organization named "Best Buddies" is a special needs organization that is international and focuses on friendship. This was also noted as a potential candidate. It was decided that we will have a hard cutoff for suggestions of December 3rd. As always, everyone's suggestions are welcome. Anyone with suggestions can either attend a night meeting to discuss the suggestion or send an email to any of the night meeting members. If sending an email, contact information regarding the organization should be included as well as what the organization's mission is.
Sandee is going to put together some information about the Companion Clubs she learned about at the International Convention. They are run essentially the same way that our night meeting is being run.
October 15th meeting: review anything Rotary-The Rotarian Magazine, rotary.org-and come prepared to talk about an article that you found interesting.
October 22nd-there will be a special presentation by the Rotaract Club at the high school. Pizza will be served at 5:30. If you plan on attending and want to eat, please respond to the request for a meal count that will be sent out the week prior.
October 24 is World Polio Day. Think about how you can make a difference. Whether that is donating money, educating the public that it is still out there, or actually administering polio vaccines, you CAN make a difference!
See you this Wednesday at 6PM at Tyranena. It is supposed to be a high of only 58 degrees...so bring your jacket...and we can turn on the heater outside!
