Lake Mills Rotary Board Meeting—8/25/26 Farmers & Merchants Bank

1. Welcome / Called to order 8:00 AM / Quorum for Decision Making
2. Approval of Agenda - approved
3. Membership Update – Beth – Summit Credit Union has joined as a corporate member.
4. Dues Update - Beth a) 13 people still owe dues (11 just Q1, 2 owe for two Quarters)
5. Financial Update – None – Dan was not available
6. Correspondence – Beth Have heard from several people that the basketball court at Rotary Park is in very poor condition and that there are some pavement buckles on the pickle ball courts that are tripping hazards. They have been referred to the Parks Board. Beth plans to attend 9/14/26 meeting to advise of issues. Nicki Kelly advised that Legendary Lake Mills will not be sharing our storage space any longer. There was a question of whether our rent would increase because of this. For this year, each organization has their own lease, so there should not be any change for 2026-2027.
7. Pyramid 5 K – September 12th – 56 people registered as of 8/20/26.
8. Cancer Screening District Grant Request Update – Beth Our request was denied. They believe it is a worthwhile project, but we need to provide more information. There may be a chance to resubmit a scaled back version in October. Beth is waiting on more details and will get with Don.
9. Status of Rotary Park Items a) Ken Stetson’s Bench – Ken’s bench has been installed b) The Digger – It is due in mid September
10. Concession Stand a) Fall – first games are Sept. 12 Using the credit card reader at the concession stand has been a money loser. Amy L. has a square hot spot that we can reactivate.
11. Community Projects a) Potential new project – Halloween Costume contest in conjunction with Witches Night Out – Beth will work with committee at our next meeting. b) Stone Soup Supper with Christmas Tree Lighting – Amy W. said no. Club needs to decide if we are behind doing this again. c) Teacher of the Month – Beth – Brian B and Brian W and the rest of the committee are working on donations. Beth is ordering custom TOM bags.
12. Fundraising a) Culver’s Night – Monday, October 5th 4-7pm can help two ways – by volunteering or by eating at Culvers between 4 and 7 PM b) Lake Mills Market Round Up – we already had one in 2026. They have our application and will let us know if we get one for 2027 later this year.
13. Interact Involvement a) concession stand – we would appreciate student involvement b) Rotary 5K – we asked for Interact volunteers c) Set dates for Lasagna Love – Carmen will look into. d) dates for Interact Meetings – should we do an ice cream social or something as a back to school event? Carmen will advise.
14. Name tags for Board Members – Nicki K. – tabled for next month
15. Venmo for Rotary is live. Venmo does deduct fees, so app has been updated and there is a 3% fee for using it.
16. Discuss sharing Paul Harris points with members who make donations to the Rotary Foundation – Beth – tabled until we have the Philanthropy / Foundation Giving Talk at a meeting.
17. Barb suggested we may want to do a memorial board and hang it at the Rotary Park Concession Stand – if we do that do we start with Boyd Forest? There was a great deal of discussion. General consensus was not favorable due to the difficulty of deciding who is honored and at what point would we start, and how to update. Possibly doing pavers or bricks engraved with members names was mentioned as an alternative.
18. New Business It was motioned and approved to add approval of previous month’s minutes to our agenda. Nicki is going to ask at BP about Rotary being a future cause for the Community Pump. Todd proposed a potential future project for the club. Setting up an E-Scooter Safety Clinic. Possibly start a conversation with the police on whether there are any plans or possibly partner with the Optimist Club. Carmen proposed a food packing event through Meals of Hope with the Interact group. Meals of Hope was advertised in Rotary magazine. The cost for 10,000 meals is $4,500 to $6,750. Carmen is going to contact them for more information.
Dean suggested that along with Clawking we might take on some garden bed maintenance. Beth will discuss with Vicki Wickliffe.
