Thank you for the Pyramid City Run: Zach shared his thank you to the sponsors and participants. We approved it and Zach will send them out.
Sandee noted that the January 21st special meeting was cancelled by the Board since there will be a sponsors' appreciation event the following evening. It was decided that regardless of the Sponsor event, the night meeting will meet on Wednesday, January 21st.
The group spent the hour reviewing all of the potential beneficiaries of the run. We weighed impact, size of project, the community aspect of each (local and just what it does for the community), and we looked at how each not only fit in with Rotary but also at recognition Rotary would receive. Gerard was on hand to discuss the library project and field any questions the group had.
There are many beneficial causes and we agreed to keep some on the list for the future. But surprisingly we came to a decision regarding the beneficiary. It turns out that we all really value the library. In some ways, it is community. It encourages literacy and is trying to provide a space where people can improve their mental health. There was concern about whether the project was too large and that Rotary would get "lost" among the other sponsors. That does not appear to be the case. We are going to work on the exact portion of the library we will be funding. However, the initial thought is to aid with the community room. This will be used for everyone from parents to children to groups.
While there are still items to work out, we are excited to help with the project.
The woman working with the Jefferson Veterans (who was trying to get Tiny houses built for them) is retiring and a new director will be appointed potentially as early as February. In speaking with her, she mentioned that Habitat for Humanity is active in Jefferson County again. Since they are currently building a home in Fort Atkinson, we discussed a potential work day this spring that all of the Rotarians could participate in. We thought it might be fun and would be a great community project. More to come!
There was a reminder that the next meeting will actually be on Tuesday, December 16th and will be the holiday party at Pyramid Event Venue. (Pyramid will be donating $1 of every drink purchase to The Lake Mills Rotary Club!) Hope to see everyone there!
The meeting was adjourned at 6:53PM
