Day Meeting Minutes - 01/27/2026

President Anita Martin brought the meeting to order at 12:1pm. Pledge of Allegiance and 4 Way Test recited.
Twenty one Rotarians were in attendance plus 1 on zoom. Guests: (Hannah from Countryside Jewelry), and 4 student Rotarians were also in attendance.
 
Happy birthday to Sandee M. No Rotary anniversaries.
 
Student Rotarians introductory speeches: Frida and Sophia from Lake Mills High School and Brady and Katie from Lakeside Lutheran High School.
 
Meeting adjourned at 12:30pm.
 
Jim W. opened the Foundation meeting at 12:31pm.  
  • Janine F. nominated Karen R. for a Foundation Board position. (Nicole F. has resigned from the Board) Second by Brian B. Motion carried.
  • Barb C. nominated Ed H. to continue on the Foundation Board. Second by Beth N. Motion carried.
  • Each term is 5 years.
     
Foundation meeting adjourned at 12:35pm.
 
Rotary meeting reconvened at 12:36pm.
  • Ed Futa presentation will be on the Lake Mills Rotary website soon. Link on Facebook will also be available soon. Thank you to Janet F. for providing a gift basket to Ed. And thanks to Ed H. for creating the video.
     
  • Board meeting:
    • Allocated $500 to Rainbow Community Care
    • Talked about RYLA. 4-6 students will plan to attend. Tonya O. talks to counselors and teachers. Students need to write a letter and have an interview. Thank you to Rotary for their support. Students who attend will give a presentation at the end of May.
       
  • Jim W. made a motion to donate $1,000 to the Guatemala Midwives Project. Seconded by Ed H. Motion carried. This program helps train midwives to provide care for mothers and babies. Karen R. and Don B. will work on grant project.
     
  • Concession Stand:
    • Tonya O. will check with PTO if they are willing to staff for the spring/summer sports at Rotary Park. The PTO ran the Wallace Park concession stand last summer. Highly organized group.
    • Rotary will pay the utilities.
    • Fall concessions will be discussed later.
    • Rotary will get the recognition for the donation to the Outdoor Learning Center.
    • Todd L. is willing to help with the concessions.
       
  • Round Up
    • Round Up at the Market for Rotary will be the month of February.
    • Generic Round Up badges were made for anyone who wants one. Waiting for approval from Market if cashiers can also wear a badge. Info sheets are also available.
       
  • Calendar Raffle:
    • Total raised as of today is $7,200. Budget is $10,000.
    • Odds of winning are 1/10.
    • Please remember to bring all sold and unsold raffle tickets to the next Rotary meeting.
    • We will be accepting tickets next Tuesday at 11:00am.
  • Club 55
    • Next week, free blood pressure screening
    • Wear red next week in honor of Heart Healthy Month
  • Future:
    • Next meeting will be the teachers of the month.
    • February 4 will be the next night meeting. Pyramid Run (September 12, 2026) will be discussed.
    • Statements will be going out today for those that still owe.
       
  • Happy Bucks:
    • Don B. – 4 Way Test Origin: Created by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor to help save a bankrupt company, it served as a simple, effective ethical checklist for business decisions.
    • Ed H. mentioned that there is a planning commission meeting tonight to discuss plans for the golf course in Lake Mills.
    • Tom mentioned that Dean was in Florence, Italy and noticed a Rotary plaque on a fountain. Rotary is everywhere.
