STUDENT BIOS:

My name is Rebecca Lang, but I sometimes go by Becca. My parents are Jay and Mary Lang. I have two older brothers, James and Robert. I have lived in Lake Mills my whole life and have never moved. I enjoy playing soccer year-round, including indoor soccer leagues. In summer I enjoy golfing at Lake Mills Golf Course.

In addition to being on golf and soccer teams at Lakeside, I am in National Honor Society (NHS) and volunteer with several Lakeside events, including the Grand Event, Warrior for a Day, and many more. I am also in FFA and have helped other members show at fair even though I have never officially shown my own animals.

Outside of school, I have volunteered and worked at Twice is Nice Resale Store many times. I have been a part of "Christmas for Kids" at a church in Cottage Grove, and I have visited a  Milwaukee Youth Center to be a part of that ministry. At my church, St. Paul, I help out with VBS almost every year, usually with toddlers because I seem to have a knack connecting with this age through Christ.

After high school, I plan to pursue a nursing degree at UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, or Concordia University, earning my BSN and then continuing on to grad school, where I'll work toward a Masters as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or as a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).

Being selected as Student Rotarian is a huge honor. I could strengthen my leadership skills and give back to the community, especially the one I grew up in. As Student Rotarian, I'll be able to learn from experience and grow in my understanding of my community.

Ashley Buth

  1. My name is Ashley Belle Buth. I am the daughter of Zak and Andrea Buth. I have three siblings. An older brother, Chandler, who graduated in 2014, an older sister, Alanna, who graduated in 2016, both from Lake Mills High School and were Student Rotarians.  I also have a younger sister, Ayla, that is in seventh grade. Some of my hobbies are playing soccer, painting, drawing, reading, playing the piano and the clarient, and baking. Some of my other interests are spending time with family while we are traveling, being outside, and playing games.

  1. I have been involved in several extra-curricular and co-curricular activities. Some of which are Basketball (9, 10, 11), Soccer (9, 10, 11 Captain, 12 Captain), Octagon Club (9, 10, 11 VP, 12), National Honor Society (11,12) where I helped set up for the Lake Mills Community Blood Drive that was held at the LMHS. I am also very involved in the Musical/ Drama Club, where as a freshman I helped with props/costumes and during my sophomore, junior and senior year I was in charge of the music. During all four years of Spanish Club we sang Christmas Carols. I was inducted as a Tri-M member during my junior year and as a senior  I will be the Historian/ Media specialist. Because of my involvement in band I am also in Pep Band (9, 10, 11, 12) and Solo and Ensemble (9, 10, 11, 12) as well as Jazz band my senior year. For my church youth group, I served as a representative on the Stake Youth Leadership Committee during my sophomore and junior year of high school. This committee helped plan our many youth activities at church. I have served as class president for my Sunday School class for two plus years where I helped conduct church youth group meetings and I made it my goal to make sure to include other girls during activities. For the past three years and this being my final year, I will have taken an early morning religious education class before school.

  1. During high school, my community service involvement includes being apart of the Octagon club where I helped in the Knickerbocker festival. I helped with the ice skating for the little kids, as well as handed out hot chocolate. I have also volunteered for Witches Night Out, where I pass out candy while children trick-or-treat around the town. In the winter, I also helped in wrapping gifts for families in need. I also did service through my church, cleaning and maintaining the grounds as well as Christmas caroling to members of our congregation and to Lilac Spring.

  1. My plans after graduating high school are to attend Brigham Young University where my two older siblings are.  I am not certain of what I will be studying, but something to do with theology. I am also thinking of serving a mission for my church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for 18 months. My hope is that someday, in the near future, I will be able to marry and have a family of my own.

  1. I would like to be selected for Student Rotarian because I believe it will better prepare me for my role as a college student. I also believe that this opportunity will help me to continue my service throughout the rest of my life.  I feel that service, even though at times is hard, is a great way to uplift myself and others.

Paul Hanrahan

1.

My name is Paul Hanrahan, and I am a senior at Lake Mills High School. I have one younger sister, Carolyn, who is a freshman. My parents are Tom and Margaret Hanrahan.  My main focus in high school has been in the arts. I have been playing the cello since the 4th grade, and in high school my cello playing has really taken off. I am a part of the school orchestra, the school chamber orchestra, and a part of the Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestras  (WYSO) program. When I’m not playing the cello, you can probably find me at the golf course, because golfing is really what I enjoy doing with my time. I currently am interested in chemistry and hoping to study at University of Minnesota next spring.

  3.

My community service was mainly at St. Gabriel Catholic Parish, and I volunteered by helping the elderly with yard work, being a server/busboy at parish festivals, altar serving at my Church, and making pies. In addition, I have played the cello for the Methodist and UCC Churches.

4.

After high school, I plan to go straight to a 4 year college, and major in chemistry, and will most likely be going to the University of Minnesota. The reason I would like to major in chemistry is that I am not fully decided on what I would like to do in my professional life, but I know it will have to do with science, and a degree in chemistry will get me there.

5.

I would like to be a Student Rotarian because the Rotary Club has always interested me. I went to RYLA, and it was one of the highlights of my high school career. I plan on joining the Rotary Club wherever I end up settling down, because I know all of the good that the organization does.
