  2. Committee Reports or Announcements

    1. Updates from PI, Membership, Community Service

      1. The Membership Committee is to seek new members and then make sure that their membership is getting them what they want. They are working on hosting a Rotary Invitational Event. So, they are looking for ideas as to how to get more members. Should we get a speaker that is an athlete of interest? Should we host a private beer and wine tasting event? If you want to join their committee talk to Jenny McAdow.

      2. The New Member Committee is going to stay after for 10 minutes to discuss how to use their new member grant.

      3. The Public Service Committee discussed creating a resource list and planning a service day event in the fall with Interact Club.

  3. Club Business

    1. Scholarship night - thank you for a great turnout!

      1. Had an awesome turnout! 20 Rotarians and they all got up and shared what they love most about rotary.

    2. Youth Exchange Program - The decision to host a student next year (2023-2024) is made in the next 4-6 weeks.  The cost is roughly $2100.  First, I would like to hear any stories of students we have hosted in the past.  Is anyone interested in hosting a student this year?  We could get an update or more information from the district

      1. We have the opportunity to host an exchange student. The decision to get involved in this has to happen in the 4 weeks. The number of things we would need to do to prepare is far too much. So, we are going to shoot for next year. The Rotary District Exchange Chair will come and give a presentation on the program. We have sent students to other countries, but have never hosted one here.

    3. Board Meeting July 26th - Items for discussion

      1. Beer and Wine - Status, yay or nay for next Feb.  We have ideas, we just need to decide and go with it.  Show of hands in support.  Show of hands for committee.

        1. The event was awesome, and it is missed. Mitch from the Lake Mills Market had all the connections, but the other aspects we could easily reproduce such as rentals, raffles, etc. We need to decide if we would like to move forward with this event.

          1. Jen: How much did Mitch do? Can we reach out to other liquor vendors who can do this work as well?

          2. Amy: Mitch put in at least 2 full weeks getting vendors. The community has an expectation as what we did before. If we can’t make this work, we need to lower the price or set the expectation lower.

          3. Pam: Plus, he donated a ton of raffle items.

          4. Amy: 2023 would be a better option.

          5. Beth: We don’t have the same players. Let’s make something new and improved. It isn’t the same event but can be a version of.

          6. Randy: Many other members do this event close by. We have friends close by who can

          7.  Motion is approved to plan the Beer and Wine for 2023. Scott is going to ask people to sign up and have people meet in the next month.

      2. Budget has been discussed and will be presented at a meeting in the next month

      3. Request for use of concession stand by LM high school softball.  April - May

        1. The fundraising effort is going into improvements at rotary park

        2. The season is not during our own concession stand season (They would not be able to use the stand in June due to conflicts of product overlapping)

        3. A rotarian would be present to open and close the concession stand for each use.  They wouldn't have to stay in between.  Perhaps this could be delegated to an adult of the team once we see how it goes

        4. we need to find out who has liability and if anyone needs additional coverage

        5. the softball team would help clean it and get ready for use at the beginning of their year

        6. they are trained and sign an agreement

        7. staff and purchase their own product

        8. The board did not think this would be exclusive to softball. but felt it was likely that the conditions of "fundraising efforts go to rotary park and it not overlapping with our own use" would not likely be met by many other groups.

          1. The summer softball concession is over. Thank you to all who volunteered. It was successful. There are chips left over that can be picked up after the meeting. The Girls Softball team is asking to use our concession stand to fundraise for equipment that will be at Rotary Park. Their season will not overlap when we use the concession stand. They would be done using it when we start and staff it themselves. Should we have a Rotary Member opening and closing the stand while they use it? They would be cleaning it. Pam offered to draft an agreement so that they understand the rules and regulations. The vote was passed to let Pam draft an agreement.
  4. Speaker: Tara Topel
    1. What if I Said your workplace isn’t safe? Most are not. What she is talking about is psychological safety.
    2. Psychological safety is an employee feeling safe in their workplace and feeling free to be their full selves. This is something that she is passionate about as she is a woman in a male-dominated industry. Being a woman in a male-dominated industry has taught her a lot. She spoke with one of her mentors about how it feels. Her mentor said what she was trying to vocalize was that she was feeling like an “under-represented community” and she recommended Tara take the DDI Course. She is happy that she did because had she not taken the DEI Course, she would have made a lot of mistakes.
    3. An Under-Represented Community can be different by mental ability, appearance, belief, personality, race, sexuality, or more. We can all be similar, but also very different.
    4. D=Diversity. Diversity is being different.
    5. E=Equity. Equity is not equality. Equality is giving everyone the same bike and expecting them to go just as far. Equity is giving everyone their own bike that is fit for them so they can be the most successful that they can be.
    6. I=Inclusion. Inclusion is making sure that everyone feels safe in the conversation.
    7. The training helped Tara to understand how privileged she really is. She met a woman in the industry who was sent home for being a black woman in the industry. That woman works for an industry that is part of Cadia (Center for Automotive Diversity, Inclusion and Advancement). These are real scenarios that happened just a few months ago. We worry about a technician shortage, but people are steered away by a business not being accepting or inclusive.
    8. Consider taking a DEI class yourself!
