Day Meeting Minutes - 9/22/20

Mick S opened the meeting at the Pyramid Event Venue at 12:15pm and led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance followed with the Four-Way Test.

Happy Bucks

  • Ann L - (1) Tried out the new "bricks cider house" in mount horeb during a bike ride with her friend.  Thank you to anyone who donated to her cycling fundraiser for cancer research
  • Jim W - (2) Greetings from Dean S. Jim's youngest was married over the weekend, and the mother/son dance "rocked" the place
  • Ed H - (3) TY to neighbor for watching his mom while Ed attends, happy to see Aaron G and John B, to have all 3 students here, and that interact has a new slate of officers
  • Tonya O - (1) Student athletes have been responsible.  First football scrimmage on Saturday, cross country, tennis, volleyball are all looking good 
  • Aaron G - (5) Happy to be here and visit with clients in person, has played more golf this year than ever, and for 3 kids doing great

CLUB BUSINESS - Announcements and committee reports

  • Mick working with Aztalan still to get a sign for Jim Brey at Rotary Park
  • 2nd reading for Zach T and American Family Insurance
  • Rotary Foundation meeting was on Monday
  • Next week is a DAY meeting, not an assembly.  The high school was not ready to move forward with an assembly with interact
  • Meggs L has a request for donations for a second water project in the Philippians
 
PROGRAM
Organizational Meeting - Committee Review
 
Board of Directors - Mick - 8 people who are elected each year to serve on the board to help guide the direction of the club
 
Audit Committee - Aaron G - to go through finances and make sure the accounts are accurate. 
 
Paul Harris Committee - Aaron G - To hand out Paul Harris awards to those who have gone above and beyond 
 
Marketing Committee - for club events and for general club marketing
 
Meal Planning Committee - Scott T - Current schedule is Bon Ton 1st and 2nd Tuesdays, BIA 3rd and 4th
 
Local Projects - Scott T - Exists to brainstorm or pass on ideas on new projects that we could take on in Lake Mills
 
Christmas Neighbors - Aaron G - Our local adopt a family effort each Christmas
 
Rotary Foundation - Jim W - We are all members of the foundation.  It exists to help grow charitable donations to support scholarships as well as local projects.  If anyone wants to run for president in Jims place, they are welcome to run
 
Hanging Basket - Brian W - We sell hanging baskets as a fundraiser during mothers day.  They always need help to unload the baskets and with presales.  They raise approx $3500 per year
 
Programs - Janine - Responsible for coordinating the speaker slots for each meeting during the year.  Each member of the club is responsible to bring in at least one speaker or speak themselves.
 
Youth Protection - Amy L - Any rotation who works 1 on 1 with a student needs a background check.  Amy is in charge of helping people get approved

Wallace Park - Amy L - Retired committee that helped fundraise and build Wallace Park.  They have since put in batting cages at Wallace and Rotary Park
 
Beer and Wine - Amy - Morphed into car raffle committee.  Tickets and posters will be handed out next week.  We are selling 300 tickets for $100 each.  We need to account for every single ticket - please dont lose one.  The car is a Chevy Spark valued at $15000.  Or you can get a credit of $14,000 toward a new vehicle.  Oct 1st through Nov 15th.  
 
Student Pickup - Ed - Arranges pickups for the students to get to rotary meetings.  Though currently, students are driving themselves due to the covid situation.  Ed teaches them about rotary on that car ride and what to expect at the meeting
 
Interact Club - Ed - Our club's ambassador to the student interact club.  Ed occasionally attends meetings with them at the high school and stays in touch with interact leadership to pass information between the groupds
 
Scholarship - Ed - Reviews over 30 applications and essays every year to select a few scholarship winners.
 
Rotary International Projects - Ed - Helps relay information between R.I. and our local club.  Also helps manage our contributions towards international projects.
 
RYLA - Ann - Rotary Youth Leadership Awards is a 2 night, 3 day retreat.  We interview prospective attendees and select students to attend the weekend retreat.  It is a life changing weekend for the kids to grow in leadership and service.
 
Night Club - Eli - For people who prefer evening meetings, 1st and 3rd Wednesdays at 7pm at the Pyramid Event Venue, or sometimes Tyranena.  They focus on one or two things at a time
 
Pyramid City 5k - Eli - A run or activity each year to promote a specific cause (rather than general fundraising).  Last year, proceeds went to the Jefferson Co Drug Free coalition.   
 
Post Prom - John B -We plan a party for high school kids after prom.  Students from lake mills and lakeside are all included.  The local bowling alley has typically been used with a pizza party and prizes.
 
Nominating Committee - John B - Suggests a slate of club leaders for the following year
 
Student Exchange - Karen - We were going to sponsor a student from a foreign country to come to lake mills, but it had to be cancelled this year due to covid.  We will also send a student in exchange.  It might possibly occur in January, otherwise next fall.
 
Clean Up - Greg - While at the EMS building, Greg would set up and take down everything for the meeting.  Now at Pyramid, Eli handles this.
 
Membership - John Black - Seeks and develops new members for the club.  Our club has been growing each year.  
 
Holiday Party - Jenn - Creates a fun holiday party during Christmas/New Year
 
Concession Stand - Jenn - We provide concessions for kids during softball and soccer seasons.  Closed this year due to covid.  This is a service we offer - not a fundraiser.  We usually need 2-3 people at least to run the stand.  We ask everyone to help during the seasons
 
Awards - Jenn - Each year, certain awards are given out for people who stand out during the Rotary year
 
Literacy Council Committee - John Bauman - Created for a project about 10 years ago .  Over the years, we would put out collection jars to continue to fundraise for the group.
