Day Meeting Minutes - June 16, 2026

President Anita Martin brought the meeting to order at 12:19pm. Pledge of Allegiance and 4 Way Test recited. Twenty-one Rotarians were in attendance, three Rotarians on zoom plus two guests.
 
Information:
  • Happy birthday to Aaron G. and Janelle K.
  • Thank you notes received from 2026 scholarship recipients and teachers of the month.
  • Thank you to those who volunteered for the pickle ball event. Close to twenty participated and nearly $500 was raised for Rotary.
  • Storage is needed for the Rotary chariot and wheel. Please contact Brian B. if you can store items.
  • Rotary Social Bike Ride, Wed. 6/24/26 (6:00 p.m.)
    Meeting location, in the back of Sunshine Brewing. Same route and same requirements as the May ride; to participate, riders need to have a helmet and a current trail pass.)  All levels of riders (Rotarians and non-Rotarians) are welcome to join in the fun. To help ensure no one is left behind in the event they're running late, contact Beth Naughton if you're planning on riding, 1-630-240-0985. (Note: If you're planning on riding, why not invite a not-yet-a-Rotarian individual to join in the fun?) 
  • Town and Country Days Parade: Need volunteers to march/walk and hand out lollipops and bookmarks. Rotary will start at the beginning of the parade. Could use animals, convertible, and an ATV to pull the chariot and Rotary wheel in the Town and Country Days Parade June 27. Please contact Janine if you can help.
  • Make sure to update your committee membership commitments on Club Runner.
  • If giving to the library expansion, please consider donating in the name of Rotary so we can make our goal. Proceeds from the Pyramid Run will also go to the library expansion.
     
  • Concession stand:
    • Last week’s game were rained out.
    • All positions filled thru July 4 except 1. Dan S. will be sending out an email to sign up.
       
  • Speaker: Dr. Don Bukstein
    • Discussed compassion and kindness
    • Current state of compassion crisis
    • Rotary connection: The science of giving and receiving
    • Improve health with more compassion
    • More empathy gives a greater cardiovascular benefit
    • Kindness changes your genes
    • Daily practice of being a giver:
      • Start small
      • Direct outward
      • Be present
      • Don’t underestimate your impact
      • Volunteer
      • Practice compassion/meditation
      • Pay it forward
         
  • Happy bucks:
    • Tim A.: son graduated with his master’s from Northwestern University.
    • Ed H.: Main Street Band will be performing at Rotary Park in Jefferson June 25 beginning at 6:30pm.
    • Janine F.: Sons are planning to attend Alabama State and Iowa State University
       
  • Next week: annual awards
