PROGRAM
Scott Irwin introduced speakers John Doty and Todd Larson. Both are on the planning commission and started a group last year to discuss & develop ideas for getting a restaurant at Sandy Beach.
Feasibility study conducted a few years ago and they are working closely with Franchises to discuss ideas and brainstorm "fit" for Lake Mills. Wings etc. would be a good model to emulate. Took concept and looked in area for something similar.
Crawfish Junction is one option that may work in that area.
Need community to push the city for it to happen. Met with Steve Wilke and parks director and city attorney. Great info shared!
There is currently a 6 Phase Plan proposed to develop the Sandy Beach Park.
Steps 1, 2, 3....
1. Proposed to move the boat launch.
2. Redo the parking lot and restaurant at same time (seeking collaboration from potential owner/operator)
3. RFP (Request for Proposal)
Proposing to have restaurant open peak summer hours only (late spring-late summer), rather than year-round. Does not want to compete with other restaurants year-round. Interviews and background checks will be conducted with interested individuals.
One proposal is for the city to own the building and leasing. Other option is for the City to own the land and lease it to the owner of the building.
Renderings were shared with the group.
If you would like more information or would like to get involved visit the city website or attend a council meeting...
