  • New Member Committee Report: They are having permanent pickle bar courts at Rotary Park. They asked for a Lake Mills Community Foundation Grant. We voted to use extra money from our Rotary Foundation as well. It was suggested that we apply for a district grant.
  • The Beer and Wine Tasting committee is meeting and it is now in their hands as far as what the event does.

Tom Vinz Presentation from Dwight H
Tom Vinz has generously contributed to the Rotary Foundation. He has made it to major donation status. Dwight H made a lovely speech as to what this means. Thank you to Tom for being a wonderful humanitarian. He received a standing ovation. Tom made a speech as to what influenced him to be a member of Rotary. He is influenced by all that Rotary does, especially for polio as he had friends who struggled with the disease. He said “you do it for the betterment of all”

Funds request
$250 request from Pam for the Dean Sanders dedication at Bartels Beach.  The board approved the request.

Today’s Program
Jean Lynch - Daydream Believers Bookstore
Beth introduced Jean who is a long-term resident of Lake Mills. She is a lawyer in town but recently opened Daydream Believers Bookstore and Gifts. Owning a bookstore was a lifelong dream of hers.
Jean moved here in 2012 and knows many in town. She wears many hats and has been busy with all her career paths!

She has been given a lot of patience and grace and feels gratitude toward the Lake Mills Community. She has been longtime thinking of opening a business. There were a couple of opportunities that came up to open her store but decided to hold back.

Amy Litscher, a Rotary Member, is Jean’s office mate. She allowed Jean to use her office for a pop-up shop. It was very well received! Jean saw the open Ephraim spot and thought it was a no-brainer to pick it up. She felt very strongly that it needed to be retail and not go to another service industry. She understands that this business is risky, and she doesn’t have a business background.

She is going at it as baptism by fire. She feels things are going great because she is the right town. Independent bookstores are currently thriving and she feels like having a bookstore in a small town is such an asset.

Give the gift of reading, it keeps people reading and opens up so many different avenues. There are so many things to learn through books.
She does not believe in censorship even though everyone has an opinion these days. She doesn’t want people to come to her shop and feel as though she is only catering to one group of people. She feels like a book store is a perfect place to have difficult conversations. She wants to be a conduit for that conversation.

She is proud of the short strives she has made, and she can’t wait for more flourishment. She wants to be here for a long time. She feels blessed to see friendships form in her shop. They are very open to community input. This bookshop didn’t happen alone. No one ever talked her out of it, but rather helped her along the way! We are all part of this. It’s an exciting time to be in Lake Mills as there is growth and change. She is so thankful to the community. It has been a challenge, but everything is positive.

Her joke is that her side job is lawyering. Family law can be hard, and the bookstore is her sanctuary. She wanted it to feel like it was your living room, meet new people, and feel safe.
