attended the Rotary Assembly meeting at the Grist on 01/25/2022.
Officer Johnson announced that registration is opening for the 2022
City of Lake Mills Wisconsin Police Department Citizen's Police Academy (CPA)! Classes begin Thursday March 17th 6pm-9pm and run for 11 weeks. (take a week off for Spring Break, and there is one Saturday morning class for driving.) Classes size is limited so contact Officer Jessica Johnson at jjohnson@ci.lake-mills.wi.us quickly. There is no cost to participate in the CPA program.
Last years classes were a great success and they hope to make this year even better! Lots of great feedback from past participants.
Participants have a chance to learn what it's like to be a police officer. Topics include: K9, Taser, Defense and Arrest Tactics, Pursuits and Traffic Stops, OWI and Drugged Driving, Criminal Investigations, Active Shooter, TASER, Drones and much more! The goal is to educate citizens on what it takes to be a police officer, why they do things the way they do them, and how technology is changing the landscape of police work. The Course wraps up with a "Graduation Dinner" for all participants.
Interesting fact was shared...
Do you know why a police officer taps the back of the car when they approach your vehicle?
- Leave a fingerprint to show officer was there
- Make sure the trunk is closed and no attacker waiting in the trunk
Additionally, LMPD would like to start an alumni group for past participants of the CPA program.
There is also a discussion about starting a Youth Citizen's Academy coming soon for 8-9th graders. Stay tuned for more details.
Meeting adjourned 1:00pm
