PROGRAM
Rhiannon Tonies - Crisis Counselor for Project Recovery with Community Action Coalition of South Central Wisconsin, INC

They are funded through FEMA when a Presidential Declaration is made in the aftermath of a disaster.

Disasters include natural or human caused occurances.  One such example is covid.

Project recovery exists to help people manage and recover from trauma.  In this case, covid is a global pandemic and effects everyone, which is different from natural weather disasters that effect one region.  Covid also has a wider range of impact compared to other types of disasters.

They are focused on helping people cope with covid in our "new normal."  The challenges change throughout the normal course of reacting to disaster.  Problems can manifest emotionally, physically, cognitively, or behaviorally.

Some data from the CDC:
-18-25 year olds large increase in depression

-Females and people of color have higher reported levels of depression and anxiety

- Depression has quadrupled in the US adult population and 25% of adults in November reported they did not have access to the health care they need

Sydney Langille is the daughter of Jason and Kim Langille. She has two younger siblings.

Throughout high school, she has been a writer for the school newspaper, a member of Teens for Christ, a member of the Math team, Warrior Band, and the National Honor Society. She was also elected to be Student Body President this year on the Student Council. Langille has also played volleyball as a middle hitter where she received All-Conference Honorable Mention and is on the Under Armour All-American Watch List.

Langille enjoys being involved in the community through volunteering at Twice is Nice Resale in Jefferson, assembling and delivering care packages around Lake Mills, helping out at grade school volleyball camps and tournaments, decorating lunch bags for the Ronald McDonald House in Madison, and helping out at her church, St. Paul Lutheran. Over the summer, Langille plans to go on an Operation Go mission trip with other Lakeside students.

In her free time, she enjoys reading, thrifting, writing, biking the Glacial Drumlin Trail, and traveling.

After graduation, Langille plans to pursue a degree in Criminology or English at either Loyola University Chicago or University of Minnesota–Twin Cities. She is grateful to be chosen as a Student Rotarian and excited to learn more about the Rotary Club and Lake Mills community businesses.
