day Meeting Minutes - 08/04/2026

August 4, 2026

President Beth Naughton brought the meeting to order at 12:20pm. Pledge of Allegiance and 4 Way Test recited. Seventeen Rotarians were in attendance, two Rotarians on zoom plus six guests. 

Happy birthday to Michael S. 
No Rotary anniversaries.

Happy Bucks:

  • Janine – taking her youngest son to University of Alabama

  • Beth – Club 55 is offering blood pressure screenings today

  • Ed – purchasing a boat in the near future

  • Barb – saw a Thomas Dambo troll in Elk Horn, IA on the way to South Dakota

Club Business:

  • Volunteer needed to take over the lunch ordering. Please contact Beth as soon as possible.

  • 1sr reading – Sydney from Summit Credit Union (corporate membership)

  • Please pay dues as soon as possible. Venmo is being set up.

  • Student Rotarians will begin next month. Encourage students to sit with Rotarians. Rotarians can mentor a student for a month. Sign up sheet passed around.

  • Club 55 10 year anniversary. Raffle and Euchre tournament on August 16 at 5pm. 

  • Friends of the Library raffle tickets available.

Committee Reports:

  • Ed asked if anyone knew the story from a couple of decades ago that Boyd Forest told about Rotarians. 

Upcoming Events:

  • Clawking this Friday. Meet at Commons Park at noon. Rain or shine. A state senator will join the group on August 21.

  • August 5 – Night meeting at Tyranena Brewery at 6pm.

  • August 11 – Ed and Jim will discuss the Rotary Foundation at noon meeting. 

  • August 19 - Blood Drive will be at Lake Mills Fire Station.

  • August 19 – Trash pickup beginning at 4:30pm on Highway 89.

  • August 25 – Rotary Board meeting beginning at 8am at Farmers & Merchants Bank. 

  • September 12 - Pyramid City 5K Run. Sign up soon. Need cheerleaders on course and water stations. (Swag bag stuffing is 9/2)

  • September 17 - Sex trafficking seminar. More information to follow.

Speaker: Rachel Scuglik (Jefferson County Cancer Coalition) (501 (c) (3)

  • Coalition began in 1012

  • Seven members on the Board. Meet twice per month. All volunteers.

  • Receive 15 applications per month on average. Grants can go to mortgage, rent, energy bill, gas, groceries. Maximum grant is $1,500.

  • Patient can apply on line or with the help of care coordinator.

  • Many fundraising events held during the year. 

    • Golf Outing

    • Witches Ball

    • Clay Shoot

    • Meat Raffle

    • Bingo

    • Benefit concert (Band Apex)

    • Bowling

    • Jefferson Speedway

    • 8 ball pool tournament

    • Bank dress down day

  • So far in 2026, the coalition has helped 82 people ($74,000)

  • Help with free mammogram clinic

  • Events are posted on their website
