Erin Lynd – (LMHS) – bio
My family consists of my mother Sally who is an RN that works at UW Madison in student health, my father Steve who stays home due to loss of vision, and my sister Ashley who works at Aurora in Oconomowoc as a Surgical tech. I enjoy spending time outside with my friends, family, and pets. I like taking walks at Korth Park and watching the sunset. I also spend a lot of my time browsing Zillow where I look at houses for sale and get ideas for interior decorating and design.

Most of my time outside of school is spent working. For the past year, I have worked at Walmart in Watertown, where I learned a lot about myself and working with others, especially customers. Recently I left to start a new chapter in life. I now will spend my time working at Greenwoods State Bank where I began an internship.  I am involved in the following extracurricular activities and clubs: High school Volleyball (Grades 9-11), Club Volleyball (Grades 9,10), Internship (Greenwoods State Bank) (Grade 12), Church- Little Lambs (Lake Mills Moravian Church) (Grades 9-12).

I plan to continue my internship through Greenwoods State Bank this summer and possibly pick up an extra side job for a little extra cash. Throughout this summer I plan to learn more and get involved with investing in Real Estate. As of now I will continue my internship at the Bank in the fall and continue to take an MATC course to get my Real Estate license. I don't plan on starting a four year but once I obtain my Real Estate license, if I decide I would like to attend a college I will plan to start in the spring of 2023.

Katelyn Kitsembel (LMHS)– bio
I play volleyball and soccer and I am involved in many community service clubs in the high school because I love giving back to the community. I also enjoy water skiing and snowmobiling, and hanging out with my family. I have one sister, who is a freshman in high school and a dog named Moose.

I am in many clubs in the high school such as the junior optimist club where we work to give back to the community. For example, this past winter I helped wrap presents for the Optimist Club “Adopt a Family Event”. I’ve also volunteered at various youth athletic events such as soccer camps, volleyball tournaments and basketball games. I have also helped my church with our fall festival and cookie walk events.

I work at Crocs in Johnson Creek.  After high school.  I plan to attend Lakeland University to major in Exercise Science while also playing volleyball.

Austin Schwab (Lakeside)– bio
I am a Lakeside Lutheran senior and the son of Daniel and Susan Schwab.  I two brothers Logan and Hunter. I enjoy being outdoors, including hunting and fishing, and golfing.

I am involved with many of the extra-curricular activities Lakeside offers. I have golfed for four years, been on the bowling team since it started my sophomore year, and played and managed football for two years each. I have also participated in Math Meets, Forensics, and the Academic Bowls all four years.   I am a member of the National Honor Society, and have helped to do highway pickup. I am a part of the A Cappella choir and greatly enjoy using my voice to encourage others. I am also a part of Lakeside’s Swing Choir, which travels to different competitions to sing and perform choreographed pieces.

I plan to attend Martin Luther College after graduating in order to pursue a career in teaching. I wish to focus on secondary mathematics classes.

PROGRAM
Our guest 03/08/2022 was Nichol Tesch (Nikki)—Medical examiner for Jefferson County.   She is originally from Scranton, PA.  She moved around on the east coast for her training.  Then started in Virginia as an investigator. A medical examiner is like a detective mixed with forensics.

You may think autopsies or dead bodies when you think about the coroner or medical examiner.  State statute determines which cases they investigate. The investigation then determines when a pathologist is needed.  The field pathology is very short staffed nation wide.  Only 500 pathologists nationwide and need 1000. The Coroner is an elected official. When there is a death, law enforcement must report it to the coroner.  Law enforcement and the coroner determine if the DA should be involved in investigation.

The coroner is dispatched to calls where there is dead body.  She has to determine manner and cause of death.  Any death of  unnatural causes has to be determined by coroner. She orders autopsies if cause of death other than natural causes. She reviews toxicology reports and autopsy reports to determine the cause of death.  She is responsible for contacting the families in person to notify them of death. This is the hardest part of her job.  She enjoys being there for the families of deceased to offer a hug, to hear the family’s stories, and to share resources to help them deal with grief.

She shared the 2020 Statistics for Jefferson County...
689 deaths investigated
602 Natural Causes
69 Accidents
13 suicides (most were not getting treatment)
3 homicides
2 undetermined
9 traffic fatalities
15 drug related cases (all but 1 opiate related-mostly fentanyl)

Jefferson County has not seen an increase in suicide and drug related causes since COVID, even though nationwide those numbers are increasing.

She also reviews all COVID related deaths and is involved in scene investigations, hospice deaths, cremation exams. She also works closely with funeral homes.  Nikki also works to help raise awareness and provide support for the community.  There is the Child Fatality Review Team to help with prevention.  The Coroner also conducts Mock Crashes with local high schools during Prom Season.
Zero Suicide Team (2017 had highest suicide rate -19)
Anyone can participate in Meetings every 2nd Tuesday of the month. Email Nikki at ntesch@jeffersoncountywi.gov for more information.
