PROGRAM
TROY TATLOCK PLEIN AIR PAINTING

Troy was in the fourth grade when he got in trouble for drawing and engraving on his desk. He had mountains, buildings, superheroes, and more. He was sent to the principal’s office where he was to be punished. Rather than a punishment, she gave him art lessons. She realized it was an escape and helped him. It is something that shaped his career and is very personal to him. He is an artist that paints from life, it’s called a plein air painting. He has 40 – 50 pictures at Agency Insurance. He does a lot of regional shows as well as national shows. He works with paint made of proteins made from milk. This is what was used in cave paintings. He is known for taking on subjects that people typically avoid. A lot of times you will see “the river runs through it”, waterfalls, beautiful treescapes. He does a lot of alleyways, chain length fence, dumpsters, and objects like that where you may not see the beauty in it right away. He invited all to go to Agency Insurance to see his work. If you have never painted, get out and try it. It’s more difficult than you may think! Artists are battling time as their subject is changing in the way of shadows, color changes, and more. He said that painting is like a first kiss, you only get that one chance.

He will be competing in Jefferson soon!

Janine asked if he shows locally. He said yes, but he thinks Lake Mills would be a great community to have a plane air show as artists would come here and paint the community. It would be a great marketing opportunity as huge hitter artists come and bring their following. There are shows all over Wisconsin.

Scott asked about live feeds of painting. He said that many artists have live painting videos. Being on the national circuit he has seen many artists on video and then in person. It can be intimidating!
