PROGRAM
Jefferson Co Veterans Foundation Initiative
Yvonne Duesterhoeft - Veterans Service Officer
Her main job is helping veterans access VA healthcare and benefits. She works for the county but connects veterans with the government entities that they need.
The Jefferson Co Veterans Foundation was created to solve some of the root problems that were plaguing veterans. One such example is homelessness. A root cause of homelessness is lack of funds for a financial crisis, causing the veteran to seek loans from high interest lenders. The foundation can now help veterans get the funds they might need to solve a financial crisis at low interest. The foundation backs a loan through a community bank, which also helps the veteran establish a relationship between the individual and the bank, as well as helping their credit rating.
The foundation was created near the end of 2019 before the pandemic. Their goal now is to scale up man power in the organization to tackle more needs. They are actively looking for volunteers and partners from all communities in Jefferson Co.
