Mackenzy Meschke
My name is Mackenzy Meschke, and I am 17 years old. I am the daughter of Dan and Nicole Meschke. My sister, Kailey Meschke, is older than I. Kailey graduated from Lake Mills High School (LMHS) one year ago with the class of 2016. My hobbies include showing beef steers and pigs at local shows, like the Jefferson County Fair. I also enjoy traveling further to the Wisconsin State Fair, or even out of the state, presenting my hard work. Volleyball is another hobby of mine that I’ve been partaking in since middle school. I love the thrill of the game and the bond as a team. My interests include agriculture, math, and science. I have and plan to continue expanding more in each field in preparation for the next stage of my life, that is so quickly approaching.

Over the past three years I have been heavily involved with extracurricular activities and plan to do the same during my senior year of high school. I have been involved in basketball as a manager, volleyball, band, FFA, Spanish Club, International Club, National Honors Society, and Octagon Club. For my final year I will be participating in volleyball, FFA as Vice President assuming the same position as last year, Spanish Club, International Club, National Honors Society, Link Crew, and Octagon Club. Each of these groups or clubs I thoroughly enjoy as you get to stay involved all while meeting a numerous amount of unique people.

Community involvement is very important to me, as I love our town of Lake Mills and all the people in it. One of my main involvements with the community is through the Mainstreet Program. I have been the junior student representative, and will be the senior representative this year. Not only that, I am the treasure of my 4-H club, a youth representative for the Meat Animal Project, CCD youth group, and working two jobs one at Crawfish Junction and the other at Pernat’s Premium Meats. My community service includes; Knickerbocker, christmas neighbors wrapping, blood drive, pumpkin pie baking, college care packages, italian dinner for church, raking leaves for elderly, and St. Patrick's Day dinner for church as well.

After graduating from Lake Mill High School I plan on fulfilling a degree in Radiology, Occupational Therapy, or Animal Genetics. If I choose to take the path of agriculture I would either go to Iowa State University or the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. With the major of Radiology or Occupational Therapy, I would choose between the University of La Crosse or University of Eau Claire. With both of these plans in my head I am very excited to start the next chapter of my life after I graduate from LMHS.

As I complete this application of the 2017-2018 Student Rotarian, I hope that I get selected as one of the few students that do. I would love to be selected as one of the Rotarians; I love the town of Lake Mills, and enjoy meeting new people that highly impact our community. I am interested in learning how a Rotary Club meeting is held, all while listening to such influential speakers collaborate on all they do for our community.

Maira Pineda
My name is Maira Pineda, I am 17 years old, I work at Walgreens in Lake Mills, and I am the oldest of my 3 younger sisters. My sisters names are Yadira Pineda (grade 10), Zaira Pineda (grade 6), Adilene Pineda (grade 3). My hobbies are drawing, volleyball, soccer, and reading. My interests are are helping people out, getting involved, music, and sports. Throughout high school I have been involved in Octagon Club (9,10,11,12), French Club (9,10,11,12), Hispanic Advisory Board (9,10,11) which I was Vice President in 11th grade, Band (9), Volleyball (9,10,11), Soccer (10,11,12), Track (9), Interact (12), Link Crew (11,12), and Yearbook (9,10,11,12). Like I said I am in Octagon Club in which we help the community, and I am I help with some church activities as in helping the food pantry, and giving to those that can’t have what we have. But Link Crew I believe is also considered as helping the community because we help freshmen get involved with our community and after school activities and just keep them informed.

My plans after high school are definitely going to college, still debating on which one still but I believe that the one that I am leading to now is UW LaCrosse. The subjects I want to major in are Law, and or Veterinarian, but now looking at it I want to really focus on Law. Helping the community is what really pulls me in and I feel that it would fit me with my parents social status and help me learn what is the wrong and what is the right. Being a Student Rotation would help me get more and more involved with what is happening in the Lake Mills community, and help me know the responsibilities of Lake Mills. I want to connect more with the town that I’ve lived with all my life, and plan to live in for the rest of my life.

Matthias Winters
My name is Matthias Winters, born in Watertown, son of Jim and Kimara Winters. I have three siblings: Amanda, 32, Kiara, 26, and Isaac, 13. I’m super competitive, but I also enjoy relaxing and having fun with friends. Listening to classic rock and watching or playing football are some ways I like to spend my free time.

Sports, music and leadership roles were big parts of my time at Lakeside. I played football (9-12), basketball (9,10), baseball (9), and ran track (10,11). I was elected vice-president of my class all four years, president of the STEM
Club junior and senior year, and have played in the numerous school bands, including summer marching trips, and my church’s band since freshman year as well as in piano duet and trios. I am a member of the National Honor Society, math team, A Cappella Choir, and was a Badger Boys State Representative. I also worked at Walmart for two years.
Volunteering is important to me as well. Along with my family and a few fellow band members, I have prepared and served Ascension dinners for three years at my church, St. Luke Ev. Lutheran, and I usher when I can. A volunteering opportunity I chartered at Lakeside has seen its second year; it’s called “Stuff the Truck for Twice is Nice.” During the grade school basketball tournament, a U-haul truck sits in the school parking lot and volunteer students collect and load people’s household donations to the resale store in Jefferson that shares profits with our school. The students then unload the truck in Jefferson.

After high school, I plan to attend Milwaukee School of Engineering for an industrial engineering degree. In addition, I am a member of the Golden Eagle Battalion of Reserve Officer Training Corps and will become an Army officer after college. I wish to serve my country and eventually have a job position in a Wisconsin-based business such as Harley-Davidson.

Being a Student Rotarian surrounds me with people who love to give back. So much of today’s society is self-centered, but this experience will be a great example of selflessness. Listening to others’ experience is a huge part of learning, so having the opportunity to hear the stories of how the Rotarians got to where they are today will help me be able to follow in their footsteps, and I’m grateful for the nomination for this reason.
