Board Meeting Minutes - Sept. 29, 2026

Rotary Club of Lake Mills Board meeting
Tuesday, September 29, 2026 8AM

Members present: Beth Naughton, Dan Sanft, Barb Cramer, Amy Litscher, Dan McCabe, Nicki Kelly, Carmen Weldon and Dean Westman (zoom)

Quorum present. Nicki K. made a motion to approve September agenda. Second by Amy L. Motion carried.

Amy L. made a motion to approve August minutes. Second by Dan M. Motion carried.

Membership: 

  • Jen J. was removed from Rotary roster. Summit Credit Union is now a corporate sponsor. Waiting for new manager to come back from maternity leave. Sydney R. was moved to a new location.
  • Seven members owe Q4 dues. Beth N. will contact.

Financials:

  • Dan S. presented the balance sheet and profit/loss vs budget statement as of August 31, 2026. Total assets: $68,816.77. Total liabilities/equity: $68,816.77 Net income was -$4,265.49. August 31, 2025: $68,925.80
  • Teacher of the Month: 3 banks have sponsored.
  • Money market is earning 3.75%.
  • Venmo transactions need to be forwarded to Dan S.

Correspondence:

  • Lake Mills HS musical is My Fair Lady. Barb C. made a motion to approve sponsorship as the same as last year. Second by Amy L. Motion carried.

Club Business:

  • Pyramid City Run: 90 people registered for event. Raised $11,000 for library expansion. Currently, Rotary has $10,500 from membership and $11,000 from run. Goal is $25,000.
  • Legendary Lake Mills is not sharing storage unit space for the future. Arts Alliance may want to share space. Amy L. made a motion to approve shared storage space with Arts Alliance. Second by Dan M. Motion carried.
  • The fall concession stand is running smoothly. Students have volunteered to help. Need 1 person for October 10.
  • 990 tax filing is complete.
  • Veterans Day meeting on November 10: decided to stay at Club 55 but remove some tables and set up more chairs. Ask caterer for more finger foods (sandwiches).
  • Show Choir from Lake Mills HS will perform for the Rotary Club on December 15. Also plan to wear your ugly sweater. More info to follow. Will also perform May 11, 2027. Lakeside Lutheran HS show choir will perform at the end of April 2027.
  • No meetings will be held December 22nd and December 29th. 

Community Projects:

  • Halloween costume contest in conjunction with Witches Night Out. Table is registered with Chamber. Farmers & Merchants Bank has offered a polaroid camera to use for contest. Club will vote at the next meeting.
  • Stone Soup: in conjunction with food drive in November. Date could be Small Business Saturday.
  • Teacher of the Month chairperson is Erin Lynd (Farmers & Merchants Bank)
  • July 4th concessions: previous owner of The Market (Mitch) has offered Rotary the opportunity to have a concession stand at the fireworks (Seljan’s). Need to look into renting/purchasing a trailer. Mitch would donate food for event. Dean W. made a motion to investigate trailer rental/ownership, manage stand etc.  Second by Dan. M. Motion carried. Mitch is also willing to give down payment for trailer.
  • Todd L. had suggested an e-scooter safety education class. Beth will investigate.
  • Sextortion assembly is a possibility. Need more information.
  • Rotary Park improvements: Anita M. talked to the City Council and Beth N. spoke to Parks Board. No funds available for improvements. Needs are pickle ball fencing and resurfacing basketball court. Also need more equipment for park area. Will need to get quotes to proceed. Maybe look into sponsorship from area businesses and also talk to pickle ball group.
  • World Polio Day: Jefferson Rotary Challenge is to match $1,000 from Club. Motion made by Dan S. to donate $1,000 to Polio Plus. Second by Nicki K. Motion carried. Use proceeds from Culver’s Scoopie Night and other sources.
  • No new information on cancer screening clinic.
  • Culver’s Scoopie Night is Monday. Invite friends and family to come out and enjoy dinner and help Rotary.
  • Calendar Raffle: google sheet shared with Board members.
  • Food packing event: Interact involvement. Meals of Hope. Possibly in December or January. 10,000 meals. Partner with another Rotary Club. Need more information.
  • Lasagna Love: Carmen W. is working on plans. Possibly in November.
  • Nicki K. is planning to order name tags for Board members.
  • Recognition of members who have passed. Looking into pavers for Rotary Park. Beth N. will talk to city about possibility. Criteria is needed. Create a block area and then change out blocks.
  • Paul Harris points: need to work on Foundation initiative first. 

Lake Mills Optimist Club is having an open house at the Grist on October 14. All are invited to attend and see what Optimists are all about. 

Committee meetings held once per month. Need to talk to speaker coordinator for dates. 

Blood Drive is October 14, 2026 at the fire station. Volunteers are needed for set up/take down and donor registration. Contact Barb C. for more information. 

Next Board meeting is October 27 at 8:00am at Farmers & Merchants Bank.
